Before we get into the DIY masks, let’s get a little skin deep (pun intended) about why you may have oily skin.

Sebaceous glands are under the skin’s surface and produce a fatty substance called sebum.

In other words, if you have oily skin that means that sebum is being overproduced.

Unfortunately, this makes oily skin more acne-prone. Getting professional facials and prescriptive medication can be expensive.

Luckily, you can pamper yourself at home and manage your oily skin with these DIY face masks.

1.Oats, Egg and Honey Mask

Okay listen, you might be grossed out about the idea of putting an egg on your face but, it works wonders for tightening your pores. As for the oats, it acts as an exfoliator and will help you suck up all the dirt. Lastly, is the honey, you probably know how amazing it for your health, but it’s just as amazing for your skin. It’s anti-inflammatory and filled with antibacterial goodness.

  • 1 egg white
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon oats (the finer the better)

Mix the honey and egg white together until it makes a froth, then stir in the oats. Spread it evenly all over your face, avoid the eye area, leave it on for 10-15 minutes, then rinse it away using warm water.

2.Banana and Honey Mask

Bananas are healthy, delicious and a godsend for your skin, especially oily skin. Bananas are jam-packed with vitamins like zinc and vitamin A which are great acne fighters. As for the honey, well you already know about its benefits.

  • Half a banana (mashed)
  • 1 tablespoon honey

Mash the banana well and add in the honey. This mask can get a little messy so make sure there is nothing around you. Leave it on for 15-20 minutes then rinse away with water.

3.Clay and Witch Hazel Mask

If you have oily skin, then clay needs to a regular part of your skin regimen. It contains zeolite, the stuff that literally removes toxins and dirt from your pores. As it drys on your skin, it dries up to excess oil too. Witch hazel helps tighten your pores.

  • 1 teaspoon bentonite clay
  • 1 tablespoon of witch hazel

Combine the ingredients until blended. It is important that you don’t use metal bowls and spoons for this as it interferes with the clay. Apply the mask with your fingers (make sure they are clean) and leave it on for 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water.

4.Banana, Turmeric and Yoghurt Mask

Yoghurt contains lactic acid. It cleanses deep into your pores and gets rid of dead skin cells. Tumeric smells a bit iffy but it contains so many antioxidants, is anti-inflammatory and will brighten your complexion.

  • Half a banana (mashed)
  • 1 tbsp Turmeric
  • 1 tbsp yoghurt

Using a fork, mash up the banana and add the Turmeric and yoghurt. You can use an old (clean) foundation brush to apply it all over your face. Leave it on for 20-minutes then rinse off with warm water. You can use a face cloth to get rid of any excess.
